- Exposition: A grandmother makes a conscience) hair tie for her young granddaughter.
- Inciting Incident: The little girl (granddaughter) excitedly accepts the new hair tie and wears it for the next few years until she reaches the sixth grade.
- Conflict: Friends of the little girl make fun of her for having a childish trinket, so she tosses it away underneath a water fountain.
- Crisis: The hair tie gets kicked behind a trash can where it will undoubtedly stay unnoticed forever if it stays in place. Days pass by. The hair tie begs a nearby fly to bump it to the front of the trash can in case someone might see it.
- Resolution: Girl realizes that the value of the gift that her grandmother gave her far outweighs her friends' immature comments'.
