Exposition: Humans and merpeople have always been enemies, however conflict renews in a stronger wave after desperate humans seek to further expand their territories after running out of space on land

Inciting Incident: In order to gain the upper hand after many months of drawn out war, the humans kidnap the ruler of the merpeople and the main character is appointed on a rescue mission to save her father

Conflict: The expedition takes a turn for the worst as the main character accidentally kills her father in an attempt to rescue him and the royal family is enslaved as a result of this weakness

Crisis: The main character attempts to control the furious kingdom and struggles with coping with the consequences of her actions

Resolution: She manages to establish communication with the humans (?)
