Exposition: Humans and merpeople have always been rivals, and often fight over territorial rights to both land and sea for their own gain
Inciting Incident: Both parties wish to gain ownership over a specific valuable area of land and water - war breaks out
Conflict: In order to will each opposing group to surrender, both the humans and merpeople restrict trade and completely cease communication with each other until one of them gives in
Crisis: Both groups suffer from this; each kingdom is unable to function without services previously provided to them by the other and is on the verge of collapse
Resolution: Each group learns that each group provides essential services to the other, and both groups benefit as a result of cooperation and tolerance, finally being able to coexist peacefully
BACKUP STORY 1
Theme: Materialism as harm / Home is where the heart is
Exposition: A group of ducks inhabit a small peaceful pond situated near a bridge
Inciting Incident: Construction workers come to take the old decaying bridge down, depriving the ducks of their old home - they must make a risky journey across a wide river they have never attempted to cross before to completely relocate themselves
Conflict: One of the younger ducks attempts to pack everything along with them, including whole collections of shiny rocks and stones
Crisis: The rocks weigh the duck down, preventing them from moving on past their old home, even heavy enough to cause the duck to start sinking
Resolution: The duck that their possessions do not define home, and only falsely create the illusion of home when in fact, the duck is able to feel most at home when with its family and friends
BACKUP STORY 2
Theme: The power of bonds
Exposition: A tribe mountain-dwelling people live in fear of attack from the giant winged griffin that also roam the mountains; however, their only option is to seek help from their greatest human enemy
Inciting Incident: Their enemy had mistakenly overhunted the main food supply of the griffins
Conflict: The griffins have started to attack the children of the both tribes and attempt to carry them off to their lairs as food
Crisis: A pair of griffins are successful in taking children from both tribes
Resolution: The two old enemies work together to rescue the children, and in the process, become allies
